No, HIFU is not a surgical procedure. It is a prostate cancer treatment that is performed without incisions. HIFU uses radiation-free sound waves to heat these cells, strategically killing tumors without affecting nearby, healthy tissue.
HIFU can be performed alone as the sole treatment for localized prostate cancer or in combination with other prostate cancer treatments to aggressively target the tumorous cells. HIFU can be repeated if the cancer cells ever return, and other surgical or radiotherapy treatments are still viable options if necessary.
