Inpatient Hospice

Expert Care When It's Needed Most

If your loved one needs closer care during this time, we offer inpatient hospice services at several locations. We’ll help your loved one feel comfortable and cared for while working toward getting them back to wherever they call home.

Inpatient hospice is initiated when managing symptoms or pain levels at home has been ineffective. It’s intended for specific circumstances and is carefully monitored from start to finish. It’s your priority, and ours, for your loved one to be able to return home.

We care for the whole of a person’s health — their physical, emotional and spiritual needs — and that care extends to their families, too. Our inpatient facilities are staffed 24/7 with hospice-trained nurses and certified nursing assistants, and physicians make daily rounds. Our social workers and chaplains assist with discharge planning and other needs once pain and symptoms are stable, and our bereavement counselor is also available for support and guidance.

When Inpatient Hospice Might Be the Right Option

No one specific disease, condition or symptom is an automatic qualifier for inpatient hospice care. Our team assesses every patient to determine the right level of needed care.

While every patient is different, some signs may indicate the need for an inpatient level of care, including:

  • Delirium with behavior issues
  • Infusions that can't be managed outside an inpatient setting
  • Open wounds requiring changes in treatment and close monitoring
  • Pain that requires frequent medication adjustments and monitoring
  • Unmanaged nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
  • Unmanaged respiratory distress
  • Seizures that can’t be managed with medication

When your loved one is near the end of their life, we can also provide compassionate withdrawal of care, such as ventilator removal or BiPAP withdrawal. No matter what, we're present at every step, supporting and listening to what our patients and their caregivers may need.

Families Are Part of the Team

Because personal relationships and being surrounded by love are part of our philosophy of care, families are an integral part of the care team. You may visit and stay with your loved one around the clock.

If you need more support or resources during this time, let us help. You have a big role to play during this season, while also needing to prepare for what's next. We'll be here for you at every step.

Connected Hospice for Body, Mind and Spirit

Our multidisciplinary approach to care means we reach across specialties and locations to give our patients what they need for their whole-person health in body, mind and spirit. While your loved one is in our inpatient hospice facility, we’ll listen, communicate and work toward the shared goal of returning them to comfortable stability so they can return to home.
